- New York Voices
Threading the ages, New York Voices weaves their vocal arranging and elegant point of view on melody, harmony and shape through composers they admire on their latest outing. Ellington, Corea, Brubeck, Hersch, Porter, Lennon and McCartney, Lins and Cubas Cervantes are the welcoming prisms for them to ring their voices into a fine tapestry of color, sound and light. Produced while celebrating their 30th year together as an ensemble, they have gathered this collection into what is a curators wish list for an evenings program. Taking these compositions in their care, they tend to invert, change time signature and reharm, but never so far that the lyric doesnt sing front and center and with intermittent a cappella palate cleansers throughout the sequence, the listener gets to experience the set as the artist envisioned. Also included in this fine array of compositions are two from the group, allowing just enough room to insert a few originals to complete their Reminiscing in Tempo.

- Sister Sledge
Best known for their work with Chic in the late '70s, siblings Debbie, Kim, Joni, and Kathy Sledge -- collectively Sister Sledge -- reached the height of their popularity during the disco era but had been recording since the early '70s and were still active in the decades to follow. The group was formed in Philadelphia in 1971, when the sisters' ages ranged from 12 to 16, and they recorded their first single, ''Time Will Tell,'' for the Philly-based Money Back label. (For the first few years, the group called itself Sisters Sledge.) In 1972, Sister Sledge signed with Atco and recorded their second single, ''Weatherman,'' which was followed by the Jackson 5-like ''Mama Never Told Me'' in 1973.
Sister Sledge's first national hit came in 1974, when ''Love, Don't You Go Through No Changes on Me'' reached number 31 on the R and B chart and the Philadelphians recorded their debut album, Circle of Love. Their second album, Together, was released in 1977 and contained the number 61 R and B hit ''Blockbuster Boy.'' It wasn't until 1979, when Chic leaders Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced We Are Family, that Sister Sledge really exploded commercially. ''He's the Greatest Dancer'' and We Are Family's title song both soared to number one on the R and B chart, and the latter (a number two pop smash) was adopted as a theme by the World Series-winning Pittsburgh Pirates.
Sister Sledge's next album, Love Somebody Today (1980), was also produced by the Rodgers/Edwards team, and the single ''Got to Love Somebody'' became a number six R and B hit. In 1981, Sister Sledge switched producers and worked with Narada Michael Walden, who produced 1981's excellent All American Girls. The title song was a number three R and B hit, and in 1982 Sister Sledge had a number 14 R and B hit with a cover of Mary Wells' ''My Guy'' that appeared on The Sisters. But after that, the foursome's popularity faded, and they never had another Top 20 hit in the U.S. -- although 1985's ''Frankie'' (a number 32 R and B hit in the States) became a pop number one hit in England. Sister Sledge left Atlantic for good in 1985, but the group members stayed busy. Epic released Kathy's debut solo album, Heart, in 1992, and 1997 found the sisters recording a risk-taking date, African Eyes, arguably one of the finest albums they ever recorded. Joni Sledge died of natural causes at her home in Phoenix, Arizona in March 2017; she was 60 years old. Alex Henderson, Rovi

- Young Gun Silver Fox
Young Gun Silver Fox are musical sorcerers. On West End Coast, they've fashioned a fresh and modern sound that summons one of the most vibrant and influential epochs in popular music. The ten songs herein pay homage to 1970s Los Angeles, a golden age of recording that infused the pop charts and FM airwaves with a blend of soulful voices, immaculate melodies, stellar musicianship, and sophisticated studio technology.
The forces behind Young Gun Silver Fox are Andy Platts and Shawn Lee. It was inevitable that two of the UK's most prolific and versatile pop music linguists would one day collaborate on a studio project that crystallized many of their creative strengths. West End Coast fuses the talents they've mastered in their respective careers, from Andy's role as frontman and co-founder of Mamas Gun to Shawn's numerous self-produced projects with AM and his own Ping Pong Orchestra. The authentic hybrid of styles on West End Coast is further steeped in the fact that Shawn, the team's silver-haired Silver Fox, is an American who resided in LA for seven years before relocating to London. ''Speaking for myself, this is an album I've wanted to make for some time and Andy was the only person I felt I could make it with,'' he says. ''Andy understands the classic melodic pop side as well as the soul funky side that was absolutely vital to the creation of this music. What a voice!'' The admiration is mutual. ''A lot of people today can claim to be multi-instrumentalists but Shawn truly is a multi-hat-wearing-cat,'' says Andy, the Young Gun of the duo. ''Musically, his ear and ridiculous encyclopaedic musical brain continues to floor me. Some of the music he generated on this album was so special I really had to dig deep to do it justice in a song-writing sense.''
ZAD, short for Zendhy, Andra Ramadhan, and Denny Chasmala is a project recording formed by these three musicians.
